Welcome to Critical Education Policy Studies @ Swarthmore College

Welcome to the Critical Education Policy Studies (CEPS) group at Swarthmore College website.

This site is intended to serve as a clearinghouse of information, analyses, memos, briefs, opinion posts, and action concerning Education Policy.

This site is collaboratively managed and edited by Professor Edwin Mayorga of the Educational Studies Department and students at Swarthmore College. We are currently focused on three activities through the website.

First, we post content related to education policy that we come across and find important to share through the site and our social media platforms.

Second, we operate an online journal titled #CritEdPol, Journal of Critical Education Policy Studies at Swarthmore College (ISSN 2473-912X) , which is an open access, peer-reviewed  journal for community actors, undergraduates and academics. #CritEdPol engages in a critical education policy approach where policy formation and implementation is understood as the product of socio-historical conditions and diverging ideologies in relation to institutions, communities and individuals. This framework allows us to view education policy as a tool for traditional policymakers, community advocates, and scholars to solve problems and affect change. Our journal provides a space for these critical discussions of education policy, practice and related issues as they impact various communities. In keeping with our community focus, we believe that submissions to our Journal can take a variety of forms, ranging from scholarly papers to multimedia projects, provided that they inspire a continued conversation among stakeholders about education policy and practice. The journal is published in association with bepress and the Swarthmore College libraries (Pennsylvania, USA).

Third, the website serve as a hub of information for research projects organized and conducted by Dr. Edwin Mayorga and collaborators.

If you have questions, or want to get involved in helping to build the project please contact Edwin Mayorga at emayorg1@swarthmore.edu or @eimayorga
